forgemaster group
well i've been trying to get my fow armor for my ranger for about 1 month and a half now, and getting tired of failing. The groups i'm in just dont seem to be working.
And some ppl just aren't dependable, so I am going to go with guildmembers that i can count on. I was thinking of going with this setup
Ranger-me
battery necro
2 wars
2 healer monks
1 prot/ or bonder
nuker
if any1 has any ideas or ways to imporve my set up, or group setups that you've completed forgemaster quest plz post. thx

I have only been to FoW 4-5 times but everytime the only constant was myself as a protection monk and a friend of mine as healer, we took no other monks with us and just had random warriors/mesmers/ele/necro/rangers.
IMO you don't need 3 monks, but you do need people that have all visited FoW before and know paths to take and when to take quests.
You probably will be better off with guildies assuming you are a group that communicate and a few have gone to FoW together.

Well I recently made a group myself for the first time to goto FoW, and we made it all the way on the first try.
What I had was
Heal/prot Mo/N (me)
Heal/prot Mo/Me
Inturp Ranger/Mo
Inturp Ele/Mesmer (yeap used Mesmer skills over ele skills for the most part)
SS Necro/Me
SS Necro/Me
W/Mo Stance Tank
if your a heal/prot; I only used 2 prot spells Prot spirit and Agies
make sure the other monk has agies it helps alot.

Best FoW group setup that I have found looks like this:
1 warrior (damage)
1 curses necro (with SS and bring blood ritual)
2 healers
1 bonder (mo/me with barrier and mantra of inscriptions)
2 interupt/barrage rangers
1 fire or air ele
Mak sure the warrior knows how to control aggro and the monks can keep him alive. Also if he uses an axe and does not use eviscerate get another warrior or dont bring an air ele.

A very balanced build that doesnt require using the "book trick" goes something like this.
2 Warriors-1 main tank and 1 seperate meatshield/minor damage dealer
2 monks-1 full heal and 1 prot/minor heal. Its useful if one carries spellbreaker
1 barrage ranger-make sure they have judges insight, huge increase in damage
1 Necro-They should carry ss and should also have blood ritual for the monks
1 echo nuker-yes using fire, i frequently play this role and if you time it right you can land your met shows so that they cant run very far with all the knockdowns
1 shutdown meser-hard to find an experienced/talented one of these, it can also be replaced with another necro or another nuker
That is a very balanced/diverse build that gets me to forgemaster everytime. There is also a build where there is 1 tank, 5 barrage rangers with judges insight and interrupts and 2 monks, but that is not as diverse and may not fit your class/playing style.

Quiet yichi! :-p
FoW is accually very easy to get to the forgemaster ..I would suggest something like this for the trip:
1 Warrior: Only 1, more then that they are fighting for aggro
1-2 SS Necros: If the warrior aggros properly, ss should kill mobs at a time
2-3 Monks: Depending on how comfortable you are. Last night my guild got The Dirrtiest his armor for his monk using 2 monks I believe, and dirty was still in like 15 AL armor :-p Better the monks the fewer you need
The rest can be filled up with an echo nuker mesmer or rangers..

I always want the same build and it always works perfect for me, and that build is this:
1 Tank (For full Aggro on him, he must have readen the Tanking Guide)
1 SS Necro
2 Echo Nukers
1 WoH Monk
1 Bonder
1 Distracter
1 Free Slot, maybe a EXRTA Healer or a Ritual Lord might help out. It's your choice ^^

Wait. You're going to buy FoW armor for your ranger and you've never been there with a B/P group? That's the most common build and 90% of PUG I join make it to the forgemaster...

1 warrior - tank
1 warrior - ganker (me)
1 bonder
1 healer
1 ss/nuker
1 mesmer/barrage ranger
thats it. basic strag, tank goes in grabs aggro, the war ganker knocks out the monk/bonder then goes affter the eles or mesmer. the tank just runs right after the shadow warriors, he keeps aggro on them. 6man group can easily do this in 40 mins. the 2 extra slots are for anyone who needs armor, or whoever you want.

The post was made in December, so I guess everyone was too busy to reply to this then. Not sure who decided to ressucitate it now.
How in the world did you accumulate the shards and ectos needed for armor ? I would think that after going to FoW long enough to get even 5 shards, you'd have at least some shred of an idea on what kind of group works.
If you had been trying for a month in a half, getting to the forge master must not be a priority for you. I know that when and if I ever get the bounty accumulated to get FoW armor, I'll be at the forgemaster as quick as I see "America currently has favor of the Gods".
I can only assume that the OP purchased the requisite materials and guess that by now has purchased a forge run.
AS far as a build goes, the main constants IMO -
1 good tank
1 heal monk
1 prot/bond/sp spam
1 good mez
now fill out the party with damage in mind and off you go

Sigh. What is this grubble? (cough ebay cough?) Hahaha.
Anyway, just hire a service, or...
Since you are a ranger do this:
Warrior (tank)
Echo Nuker 1
Echo Nuker 2
Echo SS
Ranger Interrupt Barrager (no pet)
Heal Monk 1
Heal Monk 2 (or can be prot, prot bonder, or prot w/e)
-Utility Slot

This can be done way better! If you had spend your time not on failing teams but on farming some money. Then you could just buy a run to Forgemaster

Just get a reasonable mix group of guys who can actually play and lose the n00bs. It doesnt matter what magic cookie cutter build anyone is running if they cant play. I've cleared out all 11 quests in FoW with all mixtures of the core six just keep trying till you find some guys who can play. Then put them on your friends list so you dont have to go though the hit and miss crap again.
